About Designing Moves® L.L.C.

Accreditations

We believe a successful client project is built, first and foremost, on a foundation of trust. To this end, we have worked very hard to achieve the highest levels of accreditation in our industry.

The National Association of Senior Move Managers (NASMM)

has around 1000 members nationwide.

Of those, only just over 60 are A + Accredited.

Designing Moves LLC is the only NASMM A+ Accredited member in Iowa.

What does this accreditation signify? According to the NASMM website:

"NASMM A+ Accreditation represents the highest level of professional achievement that can be awarded to a Senior Move Management company, and demonstrates the organization's substantial conformance to NASMM standards. An organization receiving a three-year NASMM A+ Accreditation has put itself through a rigorous peer review process. A NASMM A+ Accredited Senior Move Management company has demonstrated to a team of reviewers its commitment to offering programs and services that are measurable, accountable, and of the highest quality." NASMM Diamond Society is earned for being in business for 10 years.

Why Hire Designing Moves?

We know you have choices to help with your project. We invite you to consider the following when making your decision...

  • Designing Moves was the first senior move manager in Cedar Rapids area – started Oct 1st 2008.

  • Designing Moves is a NASMM member and can use the trademarked title of Senior Move Manager.

  • Designing Moves is A+ Accredited with NASMM – one of over 60 companies out of about a thousand members.

  • We are professionals that come along side you to help you and your family deal with your belongings and treat you and your things with respect.  We are not there to judge, but to support.

  • We have years of experience and vetted professional resources to help us complete your job.

  • We always say we don’t pretend to know it all, but we work only with other professionals that do their jobs well too.

  • We like to give you options so you can make an informed decision about your move or dispersal.

  • We have written processes and procedures that team members are trained on.

  • We complete your project with confidentiality, we don’t allow people that are not vetted by us or allowed by family to go through your home or items.  We handle shredding of personal information securely.

  • We always keep an eye out for family items or valuables that may have been missed, even after the family has said they've gone through everything, to ensure that nothing gets lost in the shuffle.

  • We document our process and share pictures with clients and family that lives out of town so they can be part of the process.  We often find things of interest and send pictures of those items to family.

  • We build relationships with our clients; we are often called on to help with the next move or downsizing and already know what we will be dealing with. We keep those detailed files for clients for 7 years.

  • We have an office with a secure area for our client files.  We are not working out of a home office.

  • We attend annual NASMM conferences for continuing education.  This helps us serve our clients in the best possible way.

  • We are the neutral third party to help defuse family tensions during a move.

  • We are less expensive than a hospital stay – some clients have over-worked themselves and dealt hospital visits during downsizing for a move.

  • Help from Designing Moves allows you to get settled quicker so you can enjoy your new home and neighbors.

Our Services

We understand that moving, downsizing and clearing away the clutter, can be an emotionally difficult time for clients and we take great care to make sure our clients are treated in a personal and compassionate way. Whether we are overseeing your loved ones’ move, estate dispersal, consulting with you on how to make your home a place you want to come home to, or helping you navigate the process of aging in place, we will help insure the transition goes smoothly.

Designing Moves LLC will help you….

Develop a plan depending on your project – By deciding which area of the home to tackle first, defining your style and deciding what to do with things that no longer fit your lifestyle we can work together to make your home a place you want to come home to that functions for you.

Design a floor plan for your new home and update your current home – Christine will develop a floor plan with you for your new home - be it an apartment, condo, or house - so you know exactly how your furniture and belongings will fit into your new space.

Coordinate your move – Handle all your move details including scheduling the movers, overseeing the packing of your belongings and move day, unpacking assistance and resettling in your new home. We can help as much or as little as you like.

Choose Resources – Designing Moves LLC has a preferred and vetted vendor list to help you with everything including shipping items to family, home cleaning, choosing contractors for repairs and remodels, setting up consignment sales and working with auction houses, to name a few.

Disperse unwanted items - Once your items are sorted, we make sure they are shipped to the right location, donated to local charities, or sold through the proper channels. All of this is handled for you.

Our Clientele

The Designing Moves LLC team is truly a project management resource for a move. While we specialize in helping older adults, here’s a short list of some of the folks we can help:

  • Young professionals

  • New retirees heading to their dream destinations

  • Those downsizing from house to condo or condo to independent living

  • Folks moving into assisted living or nursing care with a full liquidation of their former home

  • People undergoing a divorce who need a neutral third party

  • People who are blending households

All these moves need the same care and concern, and in some situations the client simply needs direction but can perform many of the tasks needed to be ready for move day. In other cases their job or travel may keep our clients too busy to prepare for a move so they contribute by communicating with us through phone calls and emails.

If you have ever moved you know the feeling of seeing a mountain of boxes, feeling exhausted and just wanting to get your life back on track. Movers can pack for you and some will unpack but they will not put things away. Having your kitchen unpacked and put away, wardrobes and other boxes of clothes unpacked, and beds made at the end of move day can be a welcome relief. We can do this for you.

Having a caring, neutral resource such as Designing Moves LLC to help you navigate the details of your move or downsizing project means you can concentrate on what is most important to you and you can leave the rest to us. Our trusted network of resources (movers, charitable community organizations, consignment specialists, and buyers) provides ethical, pre-negotiated discounts and other benefits to you whether you are moving in-town, out-of-state, downsizing, or navigating your parents’ liquidation.
