Handling Seasons of Uncertainty

It seems that this long and very cold winter has brought on a season of uncertainty in my own life as well as in the lives of our clients. We have a few clients waiting on construction to finish locally and at destinations out of state. Many delays have been caused by the severe weather; some clients are on waitlists. It is a challenge to move ahead.

Sometimes we have to go into a "holding pattern" and wait until the house sells or the new place is finished. We're not sure whether to sell or store our stuff we can’t let go of, or when it's the right time to put the house on the market. This waiting can gnaw at us and make us question if we have made the right choices. We wonder why it is taking so long, and exactly how long we are going to have to live with uncertainty. We humans like to be in control and it can make us really frantic if we are not! Unexpected changes in our lives due to illness or the death of a loved one are like unwelcome intruders while we wait.

So, what can we do? Worry more? No!! 80% of our worries never come to pass! Take a step back and look at your situation from a different angle. This may help you move ahead while you wait. Review your choices of what you think you want to move. Trust your instincts. Most of the time first thoughts are correct – it’s the second-guessing that drives us crazy! Can you lighten your load a bit more if you aren't regularly using some items now? It seems easier to let go of belongings a little at a time.

And by the end of the sorting process, you can part with things more readily than at the beginning. It's a good idea to get a jump on the market before it gets overloaded with even more baby boomers selling their stuff. Soon our communities will be saturated with summer sales!

After you have reviewed what you truly want to move, it's time to wait for the next piece of the puzzle to fall into place. Keep the faith that it will all work out at the right time–when we try to rush things mistakes are often made. There is nothing worse than trying to move before you are ready, or purchasing costly furniture that just doesn’t work out because you wanted to get the project finished! Just like the changes that bring a butterfly to life in the dark cocoon, or the new baby bird developing in the egg, things are happening that we just can’t see yet! Enjoy the extra blessing of time and conserve your energy – soon and you will be able to take the next step.

Talk to the team at Designing Moves LLC soon if you want our expert advice on your upcoming move and liquidation of your unwanted items. We’re celebrating more than ten years in business and our clients are spreading the word to their friends fast!
